The first time you log onto the IOS, type "help" in the bottom part of the command window. This will give you information about how to use additional features of the IOS, and how to join.
If you choose to join the IOS, it will record your login name and begin to collect statistics on your games. You will then be "ranked" based on these statistics, and you'll be able to play other ranked members of the IOS. The only way to join is by e-mail. Type "help register" in the command window for more information.
NOTE: There are many VERY good players on the IOS, so don't expect to be breaking any records the first year!
